Preparing for Your Family Photoshoot in Jackson Hole

Family photoshoot in Jackson Hole

When you are preparing for your family photoshoot, a lot of questions might come up. What do I wear? How do I make the kids behave? Should I plan around my kids’ naps? These are all great questions and I want to help you prepare for your family photos in Jackson Hole.

Family Photoshoot Outfit Selection

The first thing I suggest is for the mom to choose her outfit first. Moms tend to start with everybody else’s outfit and then have to figure out what they can wear that will match. If Mom picks out her outfit first, she can choose the colors and outfit that she likes best and fit everybody else’s outfits to match her. I also recommend lighter colors. Here is a color and style guide to help you in your outfit selection.

Kids and Family Photoshoots

The next couple of items are regarding the kids. When you are bringing children to a family photoshoot, it is important to make sure they are well fed and rested. Hungry kids tend to be grumpy and less cooperative so be sure that they have a full tummy. If you have kids who still nap, we can arrange our session around their nap time so that they are well rested.

When you are on your way to meet me have a dance party in the car! Turn on their favorite music, encourage them to dance in their seat, and increase the positive energy. Kids are doing all sorts of silly dances now so cheer them on and inspire them to let loose and have fun on the way. Having fun on the way will help everybody’s energy levels and positivity.

Handling Kids During Family Photoshoots

Getting Kids to Cooperate for Family Photos

As a mom myself I know that you want to tell your kids to sit still, smile, and pay attention. I have learned as a mom and a photographer that getting to know the kids and making it fun is the best way to earn cooperation. When you get to the photo shoot, let me take control.

I am great with kids and will get down on their level and engage with them. We will take a few minutes to talk about some things to get them to open up, and then we will start doing fun poses and doing silly faces. Once they run around, have fun, and make silly faces, it is easy to earn their trust and cooperation. When they make silly faces, they can make handsome or pretty faces next and amazing photos are created.

Have Fun

The last thing is the most important…have fun!  Don’t let your family photo session be stressful or worrisome. I will get amazing pictures of you and your family, especially if you are having fun with it. If you have any questions at all, please reach out to me. We can talk about outfit selection, help with the kiddos, or anything else you aren’t sure about. I hope these tips and tricks have helped you.
