Family Friendly Hiking Locations in Grand Teton National Park

Grand Teton National Park offers so many hiking options it is hard to choose favorites, but I am going to give you some of my favorites. As a Jackson Hole local and mom of young kiddos I know these hikes well! All these areas are family friendly and ready for you and your kiddos to enjoy. Are you ready to pack a lunch, get your hiking shoes ready, and go to these family friendly hiking areas at Grand Teton National Park?

#1 String and Leigh Lake in Grand Teton National Park

When you come to String Lake you have the option to use your favorite watercraft such as canoes or paddle boards or to take a hike to Leigh Lake. When you choose the water route you will paddleboard to a dam where you can hike back over about 200 feet to the stunning Leigh Lake. Leigh Lake is crystal clear with an island in the center of it. The island offers a small hike within it and there is a trail that goes around a massive rock. When you reach the top there are amazing views of the mountain range, lakes, and surrounding park area.

If you are not into any watercraft, you can park at String Lake and hike to Leigh Lake. While this is a 2-mile hike, it is an easy one to take. My kiddos have done it a lot and packing a lunch and having a picnic on the beach can make for a great day!

#2 Hidden Falls in Grand Teton National Park

Jenny Lake is a great place to be but getting there early is a must! There is a mama moose that hangs out there and she is definitely a sight to see. If you want to hang out at Jenny Lake, there is plenty to see, or you walk down to the Jenny Lake Marina. At the marina you will find ferries that go across Jenny Lake to a dock on the other side.

This is where you can hike to Hidden Falls. This is an easy hike that is absolutely gorgeous with a massive waterfall made from the melting snow running off of the mountain. From here you can go on to Inspiration Point, which is a steeper, harder hike for young kids, but easy for older ones. This is a very popular spot that offers a stunning view of the valley and the park.

#3 Taggart Lake at Grand Teton National Park

Taggart Lake is my favorite location to hike. This spot is easy to drive right by and miss so keep your eye out!  It is an easygoing, 3-mile round trip hike that you can pack and carry a lunch and carry your kiddos in your Baby Bjorn. You can hike around and sometimes see horses in the pasture. Once you hike up you can look down and see Taggart Lake, which is absolutely incredible!

What to Wear on a Hike

I try to help people decide what to wear for photos, and on a hike your outfit is just as important!  When you are getting ready to go for a hike it is important to wear comfy and durable shoes.  It is also okay to wear shorts, but if you do, make sure you wear higher socks to protect your legs. Bug spray is a must because the bugs are crazy, and don’t leave home without your bear spray.

If you ever want to take photos at Taggart Lake, below are some that I have taken there. It is a great location for senior photos, family photos, engagement photos, and more! You can see through these photos why Taggart Lake is my favorite spot at Grand Teton National Park. If you are ready to set up a photo shoot, you can contact me.
