How to Pick a Location for your Photo Shoot During Smoky Season

Wildfires create a smoky season in Jackson Hole. It is easy to avoid the smoke to get beautiful photos no matter the season! The biggest key to choosing a location during smoky season is being close to the mountains. The smoke may vary throughout the day, and while it may be mostly clear in the morning, it might be denser in the afternoon. The closer to the mountains you go, the clearer your photos will be.

You might worry about being able to see the mountains or the beautiful scenery, but there is no need to be concerned about doing a photography session in the smoky season in Wyoming. If you choose a good location, you will still get that stunning view. Overall, smoke can make for beautiful lighting and beautiful sunset photos. I have gathered some locations that are perfect for smoky season photos.

Suggested Locations in Jackson Hole for Smoky Season Photos

Cascade Canyon

Choosing a location is key to great photos during the smoky season. There are locations close to the Teton Mountain Range where the smoke will not be a struggle. The first location I suggest is the Cascade Canyon. It is a beautiful location between the Teewinot and Grand Teton. You can get a wonderful view of the canyon and the mountains. It is an amazing spot in the sagebrush.

Blacktail Ponds

The next location is at the stunning Blacktail Ponds in Grand Teton National Park. The views are amazing with a wide open, full mountain range view and a beautiful creek that runs through. Wildlife is abundant here and it is right in front of the Teton Range. You will be close enough here that the smoke won’t affect your photos.

Taggart Lake

Taggart Lake is my favorite place on the planet to do photos! You can see I have multiple blog posts regarding this location and photos you can look over to see if this is the location for you. It is located at the base of the Tetons, and it is conveniently located at the entrance of Grand Teton National Park.

As you can see, there are multiple locations available in Jackson Hole for great photography opportunities during smoky season. Don’t let smoky season keep you from booking your session. Contact me with any concerns and to reserve your time.
